back with FULL FORCE
So party people, our event is around the corner and although we lost Mobius Collective, we gained Guaco which is a DOPE band. We had some snags but for the most part we are just taking it all in stride. Nothing is really end of the world if the party goes on with great music and maybe someone sells a painting or two. We are very excited to have the entire space renovated and look forward to forging great friendships and business relationships out of this. Heck, and I have a feeling that a few people might get laid that night. wink, wink. See you on Saturday and don't let the Easter Bunny stop you from attending this amazing event.

M&C Launch Party
We are ready to launch with our first event.
Things are developing every minute but here is the latest.
MARVELOUS AND COMPANY in collaboration with VERBAL GRAFFITI and DESTROY & REBUILD
Supporting Kids Creative, a nonprofit organization that offers arts-based programs for Pre-K to High School students.
Hey party people. We are ready to kick this off Mash-up style. So bring out those tiaras, bowties, sequins, fishnets, suits, tuxedos, lapels, ties, heels, fancy hats, big updos or your dopest jeans and hoodie combo! Make it a Marvelous night by inviting all your friends to participate in this debauchery.
A night of Marvelous art, music and performances in an amazing loft space in Chinatown/Little Italy area at 425 Broadway (between Canal and Howard Sts, 5th floor)

Cards
We received our Bizz cards and our site is live. Our venue hasn't been confirmed and it's time to get that solidified. Supreme Trading hasn't been responding and even though that is our first choice, we are looking into two other venues as alternatives.
We are going to have available some of our shirts and the biggie organic bags for purchase at the launch but will have catalogs available to distribute and send people to our site for ordering. The site will be live capable of taking orders (somehow).
For now, things are Marvelous!!!

When you order business cards...
So the BCs are bring printed and we are going to build the website this weekend.
I went to the Friends We Love party last night where it looked like our own mission is more and more a possibility. People love the live music, art (although there wasn't much there for some reason) and video (which is their specialty). The door was a little confusing but ultimately there was a good vibe. Even ran into some Pratt brats there, so you know the communities are crossing.
Jonanonymous is having another show at Sip Lounge in UWS on February 14-March 14, so we will be able to have some stuff to show by then although it's really more an event for his art. But at least we will have BCs.
I think the social networking aspect of this campaign is really going to help. Now with 1300 FB friends it will be much easier to get the word out. Other methods of promotion will include going.com, flavorpill submission, brooklynvegan, amongst other media distribution sources and word of mouth.
In terms of the event, we also in talks with one of the Bembe djs that came to my birthday party. She lives at the Little Red Schoolhouse with her bf and will be a good collaboration. Also, last night a friend from college agreed to be one of the photographers. People are excited to get involved and we will be calling in alot of favors. But all we need is the first one under our belt to REALLY kick this off. 2009 is looking like a great and optimistic year for us.

Biggie
We are launching small with a biggie organic bag and M&Co. logo pin as the branding. All wrapped up in craft paper and stamped with our logo.
Getting samples from the vendor at work on Monday and based on that, hopefully the art will be done by then in order to send out to print.
We are looking at at a December 13th-16th production deadline.
The FB account is nice and healthy with 657 people and 384 members. That is 930 networks of people as far as I am concerned. Oh and the beauty is that customink (our vendor) has a facebook upload feature. Not sure if we will use it directly but can surely do one ourselves.
Moving along and feel we have momentum.

on our marvelous way...
Now that we have selected the first round of products, finalizing art and found great vendors... we are on our way to launching this by xmas time.
Hoping to expand early next year and might have more products developed by then to go into market via other retailers.
oh and I found out the secret to not getting kicked off Facebook. Don't register your account with a cell phone. The annoying thing is that they make you put in one of those codes EVERY TIME you want to add someone. They are rather amusing combination of words so I started saving them. Not sure how to use them yet but maybe they inspire artwork names. Inspiration comes in all forms ;) Oh and we are over 300 members on our FB Group page. By the time we roll this out, we will have a great network of people to advertise to.
Thinking of starting a contest. Have people vote for their most Marvelous friend and they can win a prize package which will be announced at our kick off. People love that stuff. Voting is always an interesting way to find out what people think too.

Latest and greatest
We are going to target the Urban Outfitters of the world. Need to create look book and price sheet. We are going to start with about 6 styles. James may have found a better vendor. We were going to use my sister's printer but since she isn't making any extra money from it, it doesn't make sense to go that route.
Financially we are going to register the company in the next few weeks and open an online business account. This will help us build credit.
BF: 210 Friends on my non-registered site. I found out that if you don't register, you don't get blocked but the catch is that you always have to put in the code to add a friend. More time consuming but at least I know that I won't get deleted that way. The Group has 243 members.

Facebook semi disaster
Well Facebook deleted my alias account. And although they did sort of warn me, I wished that they had given me one last option. At least freeze the account or something. Just like that *poof* and the over 450 I had in there GONE. Luckily I had stared the FB Group under my REAL name and that is still living. We are almost at 200 members.
We are getting soooo close to finishing the logo which is such a key element to our ENTIRE branding. Until that is done, we can't finalize any of the artwork.
I met with Joey Nova who threw a New Years party at Supreme Trading. Which is still the spot that ranks on the top of the list due to the gallery part of the space. We went to Public Assembly after a few glasses of wine where he DJs on Monday nights amongst his MANY, MANY projects. I believe that he will make a great "partner" in anything I include him in.
Also, just on a random note. I keep seeing the "signs" everywhere. Maybe it's just my "latiness" premonitions but I feel strongly that this is something worth doing. More and more it just truly makes sense. Crossing fingers :)

The momentum
Considering everything that is going on in these economic times, I believe people will be into what we are doing. It's not just a product based project and hope that the expansion into events that showcase the talent of NYC is a movement of positive nature. To enjoy the simple things in life and promote those happy little feelings that arrive and make you smile (and maybe they just happen on the dance floor, so be it.)
PRODUCT: We received rough estimates for products and finalizing art and logo (of which has gone through three people's hands now and is very close to done.)
Speaking of finance...Looking into setting up company and bank accounts (checking, pay-pal) Some stuff also Depends if we do Sole Propietor or LL Partnership.

Brainstorm
Jonanonymous and I had a great brainstorm session where we outlined many of the elements, goals and phone calls that we have to take care of.
We have drafted a plan to launch in January and have created a "store" on cafepress:

The Marvelous Magic of Facebook
It has started... I found the first person that joined M&C FB Group without me having to invite them. Thanks Alison Kane!
Facebook and Beyond
So now that I've created the LALIS alias, I can add many more people and keep my personal account safely "private". We have over 40 members on our M&C Group. Mostly promoters, venues and people that like to party.
Also, scouting the promoter worlds and found this Adam Glove dude that I might start working with as a promoter. Apparently, every Sunday, they send out a schedule. You pick the nights that you want to promote and show up at the venue. I haven't seen the schedule yet but might start on a Friday night to see what happens and how it works.
Today, we are going to set some type of schedule for our kick off event and start setting up some goals and milestones. I am thinking a January date. Considering that is the Aquarian month ;)
